Collaborating with photographer Devin Ariel, we drew visual inspiration from Nelson Morales’s Transamazónicas. What rituals must be performed - by ourselves or with others - to leverage the magic that exists beneath our feet? How do we activate connection and consciousness in a land that is not our ancestors’?

Mixed Media Sculptures

Brass 20g wire, gemstone beads (moss agate, jasper, unakite, quartz, lapis), dimension vary 2022

While reading Merlin Sheldrake’s Entangled Life, I had a vision of humans in a dark forest, covered by a glowing web. Mycelium "light" up like a brain's neural pathways or computer network when activated, a phenomenon that scientists have difficulty analogizing because it’s so different from human experience. Thus inspired, I created hanging sculptures made of gemstones, strung on brass wire, that visualize what energized mycelium could look like and what pathway(s) they may illuminate.
